Scuffles, A Family Favorite

Scuffles are such a tasty cookie. They have a crisp outer texture from the sugar and cinnamon and a tender inside. They also have a slightly yeasty flavor like buns because they are a risen cookie.

This recipe is one that has been passed down from my Grandmother.  She would always make it for her children and grandchildren.   Now it gets made at our house every Christmas without fail.  We have changed it slightly and sprinkle the dough with cinnamon and sugar instead of filling it with a date mixture.  Here is the original recipe written in Grandma T’s handwriting.

I hope you try them out if you’ve never had them.  Sitting down with a cup of tea, a good book and a couple scuffles is my idea of a great, relaxing and tasty way to spend your afternoon.

  1. My mother would make scuffles as well, and sometimes she would roll them in poppy seed and sugar for a change. You brought back some sweet memories! Thanks!

  2. I have a slightly different scuffle recipe, but I am glad to have this one from mom. Our family also really enjoys scuffles! I do not make them that often as they are a bit time intensive – but they are delicious!
